The planned prices are $249 for the Ottilo System, $279 for the Starter Bundle (the system plus 10 extra cartridges) and $39 for a pack of 10 cartridges.

A pen driven by a coil and a magnetic plunger rather than a spinning motor. Each pulse moves the needles forward in a straight line and a spring returns them. How it works explains it in more detail.

Keeping the electronics in a desktop unit keeps the pen slim and light, and leaves room for a proper dial and a colour screen. It also means there is no battery in the pen to charge.

No. A pressure switch keeps the needles still until the tip is pressed to the skin, and the pen stops as soon as you lift it.

A ring on the pen sets the depth from 0.25 to 2.5 mm.

The pen and controller are designed to run at 55 dB or less. We will publish the measured figure once the production unit is tested.

Sealed, single-use cartridges made for the Ottilo pen, sold in packs of 10. Each cartridge is used once and discarded.
